Dawud rushes in and gathers a few things to go into hiding. Mariam tries to talk to him, but he assures her, she and the family will be okay. He’s doing this for them. He says goodbye to Laila and starts to leave when there’s a knock at the door.
Romans come in as Dawud runs for the rooftops. When Ayoub tells the soldiers Dawud isn’t there, they decide to take him instead. Rivka comes by in time to stay with Sara and Mariam. They run to Laila and pray for Ayoub. Rivka prays for deliverance and wisdom. They thank God for his faithfulness and hold on to their trust in Him.
Later, Mariam asks Rivka how to stay calm in troubled times. Rivka remembers the stories of Mary Magdalene. She says Jesus prayed even more during tough times. She remembers a particular story…
Jesus was on a mountain top praying. A man brought his son to the disciples to be healed. But the disciples couldn’t do it. When Jesus came down from praying, He rebuked the disciples. He said, “This kind only comes out by prayer.” Since He had been praying and fasting all along, He could immediately heal the boy.
Rivka says spending time with God, praying, learning from His Word, seeking His will, and worshipping Him is a way of life. So when life becomes difficult, we’re prepared. Sara asks her if that’s what she does. Rivka says she tries. Spending time in prayer isn’t an obligation; it’s a privilege.
Mariam says that when she prays, she thinks God must think she’s silly. But Rivka assures her that God wants to hear everything. That in the beginning, God walked with Adam and Eve. He enjoyed time with them. Sara asks how they can be sure. Rivka replies that because Jesus was human, He understands everything we go through.
Ayoub comes back and tells them that a centurion ordered his release. Amazed, Mariam says, “God really answers prayer.”
Moments later, Yacoub visits Mariam. He brings news that Dawud’s alive and in hiding. They talk for a moment and awkwardly flirt.
How does Rivka respond to Ayoub’s arrest?
What does Jesus’s example tell you about prayer?
How can you making praying a way of life?
“It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where He could be alone. There He prayed” (Mark 1:35). As Rivka says, Jesus often went away to be by Himself. He set an example for His followers by spending intentional time with His Father on a regular basis.
“Don’t worry about anything. Instead, tell God about everything. Ask and pray. Give thanks to Him. Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood” (Philippians 4:6-7). As followers of Jesus, we’re assured God’s peace when we pray. This is how believers endure trials and suffering in life: communication and relationship with the One who made us and reigns sovereign over everything.
Like Rivka says, consistent time with God isn’t an obligation but a privilege. It’s not something to check off a “to-do” list. The action doesn’t make us right with God. But being in God’s presence does bring us closer to Him. You can’t get to know someone if you don’t spend time with him. Our Father prepares us for the things that will happen in this world. And He serves as our rock in hardship and happy witness in good times.
